This session was hosted on April 28, 2020. People experiencing homelessness face unique challenges in the new COVID-19 environment. Staying in congregate facilities and living on the streets puts this population at increased risk of infection, and higher rates of chronic disease increase the risk of complication and death. Many cities are establishing isolation and quarantine facilities in motels, convention centers, and in other settings to mitigate and manage the spread of COVID-19 among homeless residents.

Representatives from HRSA and leaders from health centers shared workforce strategies for delivering care in these settings and best practices in service delivery.

This is the fourth session in the STAR² Center’s 2019-2020 PCA & HCCN Professional Development Series. It was presented on April 16, 2020. Dr. Edward Schelb, Specialist, Learning and Instructional Design with NACHC joined the STAR² Center’s presenting team to discuss designing workforce training and technical assistance for health center leaders. Health centers are balancing the wellbeing and safety of their workforce with the need to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. While “essential” staff are needed on the frontline, “non-essential” staff are either sent home to wait out the pandemic, or are deployed to perform alternative services to support COVID-19 response efforts. This webinar, hosted on April 14, 2020, covers workforce strategies employed by health center leaders in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
