Pathways to Recruitment & Retention Series – Health professions education and training (HP-ET) programs shine bright as an example of a strong solution health centers can engage in as the nation continues to face a shortage of health care professionals. With a projected total physician shortage of between 37,800 and 124,000 physicians by 2034, it is critical health centers develop programming to “grow their own” medical, dental, and behavioral health staff. From medical assistants to psychiatric nurse practitioners, HP-ET programs can take innumerable forms. The sixth season of the STAR² Center Talks Workforce Success podcast highlights Primary Care Organizations (PCAs) and health centers (HCs) leading the way on HP-ET programming and discusses the individual experiences of those who have tread this path on their journey in the Health Center Movement.
