Strategic Workforce Planning for HP-ET Retention & Recruitment Learning Collaborative

Recruiting and retaining providers is a challenge for many health centers.  Even with national improvements before COVID-19, studies indicate that provider shortages most dramatically and inequitably impact underserved communities. Moreover, given the increased challenges of a global pandemic, the Great Resignation, and a pending Great Retirement in healthcare, health centers now, more than ever, must approach workforce development and “grow-your-own” efforts strategically.

This Learning Collaborative, conducted in collaboration between the STAR² Center and Wipfli, will provide health centers an opportunity to develop a Strategic Workforce Plan focusing on Health Professions Education & Training (HP-ET) strategies to enhance capabilities to recruit, develop, and retain their provider workforce.  The Learning Collaborative will:

  • Build or increase health centers’ understanding of HP-ET program models and strategies and their benefits for provider recruitment and retention.
  • Build or increase health centers’ understanding of operational elements necessary for successful HP-ET programs and available resources and funding opportunities for program development.
  • Provide health centers a Strategic Workforce Plan template with SME guidance and peer feedback to complete their draft plans.

Sessions will take place from 3:00 – 4:15*pm ET on:

  • February 1,
  • February 22,
  • March 15*,
  • April 5*, and
  • April 26*.

The application for this learning collaborative has closed. Participants were notified of their conditional acceptance on January 21, 2022.

To confirm acceptance, health center leadership will need to acknowledge and commit to the cohort member’s participation by January 27, 2022. If you have questions, please contact Mariah Blake at mblake@clinicians.org or 703-577-3327.
